Walking Tour of Downtown Djibouti

Start your stay in Djibouti with a walking tour of the downtown area  to help you get orientated.   Learn where to change money, find a good cup of coffee, explore local food markets, discover where to buy locally made souvenirs, and learn about our favorite restaurants. Tours typically end at our favorite fresh juice shop. These tours can be customized based on your interests.  The cost for a 2 hour City Tour is $60 for 1 person, Each additional person is $20.  Group rates are available.
Lac Ebbe / Lac Assal Trip
The scenery at Lac Abbe has been described as "otherworldly".  Located on the border of Djibouti and Ethiopia, it is unique because of the presence of fumeroles, or volcanic vents, hot springs, and it is the wintering home of flamingos from South Africa.  The sunsets and sunrises are beyond description.  The ride out there is through the heart of the Afar country.  You will spend a night in a traditional Afar hut.  This is a trip you will never forget.  Enjoy the slide show of pictures courtesy of Atlas and Boots.

We often include a stop on the way back at Lac Assal, which is the lowest place in Africa, also known for its unique scenery, The price for this two day trip varies according to season.  Please request the current prices.

Lac Assal
This trip includes a morning visit to Lac Assal, which is the lowest place in Africa, and a must see for everyone who comes to Djibouti.  You will have the opportunity to float in the salt lake.  After leaving Lac Assal, you will have lunch at the scenic Ghoubet, stand at the intersection of two tectonic plates and explore lava flows.

Camel Caravan at Lac Assal
Camels will carry your camping gear as you hike along ancient salt trade routes.  This will be an unforgettable trek in the wilderness of Djibouti.  As one guest said, "It was the best way to approach to Lac Assal as you anticipate the grandeur of the salt lake".  Trips can be arranged for one night or extended periods.  The cost will vary depending on the itinerary.

Arta Plage and Lac Assal
For those who want to experience the best Djibouti has to offer but only have a day to see it, RWA offers snorkeling at Arta Plage in the morning, and then a drive to Lac Assal in the afternoon.  It is a long day, and you will come home tired, but you will experience amazing coral reefs, and visit some of the most unique scenery on earth.  During whale sharking season, it would be possible to charter a boat and snorkel with the gentle giants of the sea while at Arta Plage.  The costs for this trip is $550  for one person, and $50 for each additional person.  Maximum of 4 people.
There is a $140 additional charge for the whale shark trip.

Foret du Day
Foret du Day is a National Park in one of the few remaining forests in Djibouti, located in the Goda Mountains at about 2,000 m above sea level.  The forest is an historic Juniper forest that is dying off because of reduced rainfall.  But it is still a beautiful setting with unique flora and fauna.  It is a wonderful place to spend a night, escape the  heat, hike in the highlands, and enjoy Afar hospitality.  A great place to include in your itinerary during your visit of Djibouti.
Hiking trips from Day to see historic rock art at Abourma, or through the Gode Mountains to the Banquale Encampment are available.   Contact us for pricing.

Bolli Encampment

Bolli is located in the mountainous highlands of northern Djibouti.  The drive to Bolli through Randa is spell-binding.  The camp is a great place to enjoy the cool mountain evenings,  hike up to the ridges and partake of amazing vistas, relax with friends, and enjoy Afar hospitality.  My Djiboutian friends say it is their favorite place in the world to relax, and it has become become my favorite mountain retreat.  A great place to add onto your trip after snorkeling at Raissali or Sable Blanc.  Contact us for pricing.
